On The Stones Call I just posted an article that encourages us to consider how we define and perceive leadership. Encouraging the stretching of our definition, from a formal definition of leadership to one that encompasses even the smallest, informal acts of leadership that we are all called to on a daily basis. Please check the article out: http://thestonescall.com/2017/04/03/changing-the-perceptions-we-hold-around-leadership-from-who-me-to-yes-me/ Continue Reading
It is Never Too Late
Two weeks ago, on a Friday morning, I attended church in Kigali, Rwanda. Not "church" as you might imagine. Essentially it was more like a community group or small group. It was composed of approximately 25 Rwandan males and females, some of the many leaders and community support workers associated with the The Wellspring Foundation for Education. Scripture was read. There was insightful and thoughtful discussion. Hymns were sung. And oh, how they were sung! It was my first trip to Rwanda. Continue Reading
Curious Parents
Today's guest post, Curious Fathers, is part two of a previous post, Curious Children, that my husband Claudio wrote for his blog, Players in One Band, and I featured here as a guest post. In the first article Claudio posed a series of questions to encourage people to reflect on their leadership and the leadership of others, especially in relationship to how families are lead. He encouraged parents and children to engage in thoughtful, mutual discussion about how we communicate our values Continue Reading
Starting Again
My youngest son Michael and his wife Jayne have just moved to Aberdeen Scotland so Michael can continue his studies and pursue his doctorate in Theology. They will be in Scotland for about 4 years as he attends the University of Aberdeen. He recently posted an article on his blog, Calling Out Media, called Starting Again. I asked his permission to re-post it here. In the post Michael shares a bit about the changes they have experienced as a result of their move to Scotland. My husband and I Continue Reading
Our Divine Lifeguard
I have been thinking a lot lately about how God can call us to take a step of faith and do something completely unexpected. I wrote my last blog, Small Steps, Big Faith, on this very topic- about how God can unexpectedly call us into an unknown adventure and how we need to just start by taking the first small steps in faith. Since I wrote the article I have taken some steps in faith and have discovered that though it can be intimitdating, it has definitely been worth taking the steps. In the Continue Reading
Heads Up and Bold Hearts: Take a Moment for Encouragement
For most of us, getting our yearly physical is one of our least favourite activities. Some dislike it so much they avoid going. Friends have shared that they have even let years slip by before they summon the courage to schedule an appointment. So I am sure that this will sound rather unbelievable. But a few weeks ago when I left my doctor’s office, after having just had my physical, I walked towards my car feeling affirmed and encouraged. In fact, the appointment was a highlight of that Continue Reading
Forging Cross-Generational Relationships Takes Time
Recently I read a Huffington Post article entitled, “I Miss the Village”, where the author, Bunmi Laditan, writes that she “misses the village of mothers I’ve never had”. She expresses a yearning for the days when women had opportunities to do life together, helping by simply walking alongside one another. A time where women would “be washing side by side” or meeting at the well to gather water, and as they bent to their tasks children of all ages would be playing around them. Of course these Continue Reading
Blog 101 – Heart 101
Here’s the thing. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this blog. Similar to Brenda, I had a picture in mind of how I thought things would unfold. But as usual, God has His own ideas and plans. I have discovered I am going on an unexpected journey. God seems to be using this blog and my experiences around it, to to help shape me and push me out of my comfort zone It all started with the various blog posts. Each one of them initiated a series of replies and exchanges Continue Reading
Living a Loving Legacy
Today's post is written by Brenda Kyle, Coordinator of the CAC "Legacy: Committee". She shares how sacred exchanges and "Legacy" are changing her life and the lives of women in our community. As I have read Anne’s blogs on “ A Sacred Exchange”, I have been a silent observer. She has been most courageous in sharing her heart, which encompasses her thoughts, longings and clearly her passion for the Lord. She has been vulnerable and transparent. My heart as well as other women’s Continue Reading
